PERMISSION FOR ARCHAEOLOGICAL RESEARCH
The Government of the ZEDO-DOBOJ canton released the permission for the archaeological research on the locations of Visocica, Pljesevica and Vratnica, excluding the protected area of the medieval town of Podvisoki in favour of "The Archaeological Park: Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun Foundation".
The 5-year Plan of Research 1 Jan 2006 - 31 Dec 2010
Hypothesis: The hill of Visocica is a colossal step pyramid of 220 meters height
it has a monumental paved access plateau (420 meters long), and
an underground complex of tunnels.
Investor: The Archaeological Park: Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun Foundation – headquartered in Sarajevo – as a contracted partner of the Homeland Museum in Visoko which cares for the royal Bosnian city, Visoki, as well as with the government of Zenica-Doboj Canton.
Source of Financing: International sources (International Fund for the Protection of World Heritage Sites, UNESCO, the European Commission for Culture), domestic sources (discretionary budgetary funds), foreign and domestic companies, private sponsors, discretionary funds for culture of embassies in BiH, etc.
Status of the Foundation: Independent, nonprofit and nonpolitical institution with (1) transparent work, (2) an administrative board, executive director and council, (3) committees, subcommittees and international council as the main bodies, and (4) a number of advisory expert boards which gather as needed.
PHASES OF RESEARCH ACTIVITY
2006: Carry out the legal and organizational preparations, establish the foundation, form three project teams which will begin the process of excavation and restoration of:
a.) the monumental tiled plateau, in four sections of 20x40 meters;
b.) the walls of the pyramid, in six sections of 20x50 meters on all four sides;
c.) the mapping of the underground complex of tunnels and spaces.
It is important to insure that the infrastructure adapts to the huge rising interest of citizens of BiH from around the world and of foreigners. With that goal, it is urgently necessary to pave the alternative route from the direction of Ravne-Viso?ica which tourists will use. The existing route toward Viscica from Visoko will be constantly regulated and only used by locals and research teams. That road will not be widened because it lies on the lateral side of the pyramid.
Employ persons for the security of the pyramid and the entrance into the tunnels. Hire guides part-time. Insure the existence of marketing and informational materials. Place boards with posters on which is the reconstruction of the pyramid complex with later cultures on the top of the pyramid.
2007: Continue with the digging of wide sections of: (1) the access plateau, (2) the walls of the pyramid, and (3) the underground complex of tunnels.
Constantly resolve the access route, parking and tourist routes with permanently employed expert personnel and guides. Include the Tourist Association of BiH and the Economic Council of BiH in the project. Carry out the geological probe drilling on Pljesevica. Legally protect Pljesevica as the Bosnian Pyramid of the Moon. Prepare the underground tunnel between the two pyramids and open it to the public within a limited time frame.
2008: Completely protect the excavated sections of the plateau and pyramid and make permanent paths for tourists. Open a discovered passage into the interior of the pyramid for a limited number of visitors. Announce the third pyramid in the adjacent area by state interest and begin the process of excavation and restoration. Constantly restore all cultures which are located on the top of the pyramid, especially the royal town of Visoki.
Continue with the excavation and protection of lower, sloped parts of Visocica. Map underground walls, passages, and stairs. Expand the scope of state interest in the wider region of Visocica. Open the building of The Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun Museum in Visoko.
2009: Establish complete tours for visiting the archeological park. Add methods of restorations so as not to damage any part of the pyramid. Expand the archeological digging on all parts of the Visoko valley on which is the remainder of the ancient pyramidal complex. Begin the excavation of the ancient pyramidal structure east of Pljesevica. Open regional buildings of the Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun Museum at the airport in Sarjevo, at the airport in Visoko, and at the entrance of the freeway in Zenica.
2010: Constantly declare the Visoko valley with the pyramidal complex the most meaningful monument of cultural-historical inheritance in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Install a plaque on the plateau of the Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun on which UNESCO declares this archeological park a world heritage site.
