PYRAMID MOUNTAINS

Many mountains all over the world carry the name "pyramid". People seeing the conical or pyramid shape in a hill or mountain often name it "pyramid".

Australian pyramid mountains

Walsh's Pyramid near Cairns/North Queensland (922 m, 3026 feet) is claimed to be the highest natural pyramid in the world. Climbing time is 3 hours, rewarded by the most magnificent view. 20 km south of Cairns and 1 km south of Gordonvale

The town of Pyramid Hill,Victora, was named after it. Pyramid Hill (187 m above sea-level) is a remarkably exact triangle of granite stone which explorer Thomas Mitchell surmounted in 1836. He named it for its similarity to 'the monuments of Egypt'. It is a half-hour climb to the top. Coordinates 36° 4' 0''S/144° 8' 0''E
